Project
Leader/Building a Presence for Science
Description:
Project Leader is a professional development program for science teachers utilizing the “training of trainers” model. A Science Teacher Leader is identified at each school building in Lapeer County. The Science Teacher Leader (STL) is expected to attend monthly three-hour training sessions which provides them with science teaching strategies and information they are to pass along to science teachers in their building. The STL is also the "Point of Contact" for the building in the Building a Presence for Science in Michigan initiative.
Topics for Project Leader
sessions include implementation of the constructing and reflecting benchmarks
from the MCF, embedded assessment in science, writing in science, conducting
investigations in the classroom, reinforcing reading strategies in Science, as
well as others.
Science instruction by all science teachers in Lapeer County will improve as a Science Teacher Leader at each school becomes an instructional leader in science, promoting best practice instruction, and acting as a conduit of information between the Math/Science Center and their building science colleagues. Points of Contact will actively participate in the Building a Presence for Science network.
